Ada Counties New Sheriff Sworn In

BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) - There's a new sheriff in town. In a ceremony at the Ada County Courthouse Tuesday afternoon, outgoing Sheriff Gary Raney officially swore in his replacement.

By taking the oath of office, Stephen Bartlett became the 38th sheriff of Ada County. Raney called Bartlett "intelligent and thoughtful." Bartlett remarked that the ceremony was a "humbling, satisfying and rewarding" experience and thanked the outgoing sheriff for being a great leader. Bartlett has been with the sheriff's office since 2003, and rose to the rank of captain before he was tapped to replace Raney, who announced his retirement in April.

The sheriff is normally an elected position, but because Raney retired before his term was up, the Ada County Board of Commissioners was tasked with finding someone to fill out the term. Based on Raney's recommendation, the commissioners appointed Bartlett earlier this month.
