BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Ada County Sheriff's Office detention deputy has been accused of assaulting a woman and attempting to strangle her.

The Idaho Statesman reports that the 29-year-old detention deputy with the Ada County Jail has been charged with one felony count of attempted strangulation and misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and false imprisonment.

The deputy was arrested Saturday at a Meridian home. He was placed on administrative leave at work. Ada County is conducting an internal investigation to see if he can remain employed as a deputy.
