BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) -- The Ada County Board of Commissioners has named Capt. Steve Bartlett as the new Ada County Sheriff. Bartlett, the former Eagle Police Chief, has spent more than a decade with the Ada County Sheriff's Office. Bartlett will take the helm June 30, when current Sheriff Gary Raney steps down to take a position with the Department of Justice.  Although, Sheriff is an elected position; the process was a little different because Sheriff Raney announced his retirement before his term was up.

The way it works: The party of the current Sheriff can nominate up to three candidates. Those candidates are then given to the board of commissioners, who are the deciding factor. Bartlett was one of two candidates, along with Randy Folwell, who were nominated for the position.
