Airplane Makes Emergency Landing in E. Idaho

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in eastern Idaho say two people aboard a single-engine airplane received minor injuries during an emergency landing in a field.

Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen tells the Idaho State Journal the pilot radioed the Pocatello Regional Airport tower he was planning to land because of engine trouble. The airport scrambled for emergency landing preparations but the aircraft came down in a field southwest of Fort Hall at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say the aircraft deployed an emergency parachute to soften the landing, and that the occupants of the aircraft received treatment at the scene. The aircraft clipped a power pole on the way down and knocked out power to area residents. Idaho Power says power was restored after several hours.
