Amazon Picks Up ‘Transparent,’ ‘Bosch,’ ‘Mozart in the Jungle’ and Chris Carter’s ‘The After’ to Series

)

Last year we were somewhat disappointed, if not altogether unsurprised to see that Amazon had rejected the ‘Zombieland‘ pilot in favor to ‘Betas’ and ‘Alpha House,’ but the studio’s second round of original series has proven much more ambitious. Of five pilots previously made available to stream, Amazon has impressively given series orders to four, including Jeffrey Tambor’s critically-lauded ‘Transparent,’ and ‘X-Files‘ creator Chris Carter’s post-apocalyptic drama ‘The After.’

The only pilot left out of Amazon’s second round of pickups is that of sports comedy ‘The Rebels,’ the pilot of which starred ‘Justified‘ and ‘The Following‘ vet Natalie Zea. Still unknown is which of Amazon’s five children’s pilots will make it to series, among the choices Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street,’ ‘The Jo B. and G. Raff Show,’ ‘Hardboiled Eggheads,’ ‘Maker Shack Agency’ and ‘Wishenpoof.’

Given 10 episodes apiece, there’s Titus Welliver’s detective series ‘Bosch,’ based on the literary character of the same name, along with ‘The After,’ from writer-director Chris Carter about eight strangers thrown together by a mysterious catastrophe. Comedy orders include Roman Coppola, Jason Schwartzman and Alex Timbers’ ‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Malcolm McDowell as rival conductors of the New York Symphony.

Perhaps most notable of all is the critical favorite Jeffrey Tambor-Gaby Hoffmann family drama ‘Transparent,’ starring ‘Arrested Development‘ vet Tambor as the titular parent who reveals his transgender status to his family.

We’ve included a sizzle reel above, while it remains to be seen when Amazon will premiere its four new series (its first two dramas, as well), but what do you think? Do any of the streaming network’s new offerings sound worthy of your attention?
