STANLEY, Idaho (KLIX) – Avalanche activity in the area has prompted the closure of a 10-mile stretch of Idaho 75 over Galena Summit on Wednesday morning.

The road is closed between Galena Lodge and Frenchman Creek turnout, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

According to the news release:

The Stanley Basin is currently closed to all by emergency vehicles. Idaho 75 is closed between Stanley and Clayton and Idaho 21 is closed from Grandjean to Banner Summit due to continued avalanche danger and activity.

Crews have been able to maintain a single lane of travel over Galena Summit for use by emergency vehicles, all other traffic into the Stanley Basin is currently restricted.

No estimates are available for the opening the roadways due to continued heavy snow in the central mountains.

Changing road conditions will be posted at 511.idaho.gov. News Radio 1310 also will provide updates as information becomes available.
