BELLEVUE, Idaho (KLIX)- The Blaine County Sheriff's Office is investigating a head on crash that injured two people near Timmerman Junction Wednesday evening.

According to the Blaine County Sheriff's Office the head-on crash happened at mile post 97 three miles south of Timmerman on Highway 75. Authorities say Geraldine Helm, 49, of Twin Falls, Idaho was headed south in a Volkswagen Passat.  Daniel Jerke, 28, of Kimberly, Idaho was headed north in a Ford Explorer.

The two cars collided on the pavement but ended up off the west shoulder. Helm had to be extricated from a vehicle and flown by air ambulance to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. Jerke was taken to St. Luke's Magic Valley by ground ambulance.

The crash shut down traffic in both directions  for about two hours during the evening commute. Some traffic was diverted to Highway 20. The crash is still under investigation.
