BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Edge Brewing Company spokesman says the company's head brewer has been seriously burned in an accident involving a hot mixture of malt and water.

KTVB-TV of Boise reports (http://is.gd/8lWAyN ) that Kerry Thomas was working on a batch of Obligatory Double IPA last week when it started to bubble and foam. Company sales and marketing director Steve Koonce says Thomas turned for a split second and suffered second- and third-degree burns to her right side when the kettle boiled over.

Thomas was rushed to a hospital, then flown to a Salt Lake City burn unit. Cory Thomas, Kerry Thomas' husband, says his wife is in good spirits despite the burns covering a third of her body. She's scheduled for surgery and skin grafting next week. KTVB reports the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has visited the brewery to check things out.
