BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho company says it has created an app that can help diagnose children who have autism. The Boise company, called Behavior Imaging, says parents can use the app to send videos of their young children playing and interacting with others to doctors who can make a diagnosis. Company leader Ron Oberleitner, whose son has autism, says the Naturalistic Observation Diagnostic Assessment app can provide a diagnosis in just a few weeks instead of the traditional process, which can take months or years.

Oberleitner says an early diagnosis via the app can help doctors treat children more effectively. The business received federal funding to pursue the project because of the rising rate of autism is the United States. Roughly 1 in 68 American children is diagnosed with autism.
