BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise is getting ready to celebrate its 150th birthday. City officials are planning to launch the yearlong celebration Thursday with a series of events, including the opening of a retail shop downtown and announcement of arts grants marking the city's sesquicentennial.

The Idaho Statesman reports that (http://bit.ly/REgEUN ) a series of events to honor Idaho's Capital City are planned throughout 2013. For example, the city will host "Thinking 150," which is a collection of presentations and conversations about Boise's place in the historical and modern West. The Mayor's Music Celebration is slated for October. The main event is scheduled between July 4 and July 7 two of city's downtown public parks.
