Boise Hit with Record Rainfall

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A storm packing strong winds dropped a record amount of rain on the Boise area Wednesday evening — more than it typically receives in the entire month of July.

National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Groenert says the 0.6 inches of rain measured at the agency's Boise Airport office broke a rainfall record for July 8 of 0.1 inches, set back in 1936. Normal month of July precipitation at the Boise airport station is .33 inches. Groenert says the rainfall varied widely — a sensor at the far end of the airport reported 1.28 inches.

The storm also brought winds that gusted as high as 46 mph. The Idaho Statesman reports the storm flooded some streets and parking lots. The Weather Service says rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue Thursday through Saturday.
