Boise Man Shot by Police Released from Hospital, Behind Bars

BOISE, Idaho (KTVB) -- A man who was injured in an officer-involved shooting last week has been released from the hospital and booked into the Ada County Jail.

Patrick Anthony Zavala, 37, is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He also is being held on a felony parole violation warrant. Zavala received parole in 2014 on a driving under the influence conviction. The shooting happened after a Boise Police officer tried to pull over a car for driving without its headlights on just before midnight Oct. 26. Police say Zavala jumped out of the car near Rose Hill Street and Peasley Street and ran away. Officers chased Zavala into a nearby backyard, and shot him after he ignored repeated commands to drop his gun, police say. Zavala was hit in the leg and the hand; investigators say it appears he also shot himself with his own gun. Adam Crist, an eight-year veteran of the police department and member of the Community Outreach Division, was identified as the officer whose bullet struck Zavala. He was placed on three-day administrative leave. Idaho State Police and the Critical Incident Task Force were called in to investigate the shooting. Zavala is due to appear in court Monday afternoon.
