Boys Sentenced for Setting Cop Cars Ablaze

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) - Three Blaine County boys who pleaded guilty to setting fire to two police vehicles parked in front of officers' homes in Hailey in December 2010 have been sentenced in Juvenile Court. The Idaho Mountain Express reports detention sentences while the third received 45 days because of prior misdemeanor convictions. All were placed on probation for three years, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, pay
$589 in restitution and maintain a B average in school.
Prosecuting attorney Jim Thomas said the crimes could have been considered terrorism and if the suspects had been 18 instead of 16, they would have been prosecuted federally. He said he recommended lighter sentences because the boys had accepted responsibility and changed their attitudes.
