BSU’s Southwick May be Back in Weeks

BSU

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Boise State coach Chris Petersen says injured starting quarterback Joe Southwick could return to action in a couple of weeks. But until Southwick is capable of moving at full speed, Petersen says he’s pleased with the play of backup Grant Hedrick.

Since taking over the offense, Hedrick has led Boise State to a 2-1 record and kept the team in the hunt for the Mountain West Conference title. This season, Hedrick has completed 69.8 percent of his throws for 801 yards and seven touchdowns. He has also frustrated defenders with his running ability.

Southwick had surgery on Oct. 21 to repair a broken ankle and has been joking with trainers about getting back on the field. Boise State (6-3, 4-1) is coming off a bye week and plays Wyoming on Saturday.
