Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - A Buhl man will be spending at least 6 years in prison. Victor Soria-Navarrete 40, gave the Alford Plea in January to two Aggravated Assault charges on a Law Enforcement Officer with one of the charges containing a Weapons Enhancement.

An Alford Plea is described as a guilty plea in criminal court where a defendant does not admit the criminal act but admits that the evidence the prosecution has would be likely to persuade a judge or jury to find the person to be guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

He was charged with the shooting in July of 2014 at a residence in Buhl. He was later captured in Utah and brought back to Twin Falls to face the charges.

The shooting took place at 49 Manor Drive in Buhl. A Buhl Police Officer and a Twin Falls County Deputy responded to a report of a domestic dispute. That’s when someone inside began firing at the officers with an assault rifle-style weapon. Buhl Police Officer Benny Torres was pierced by an object in his back side during the incident.

Before Judge Randy Stoker this Thursday morning, Soria-Navarrete was sentenced to 20 years with 6 years determinate, 14 years indeterminate, for Assault with A Aggravated Enhancement on a Police Officer. The judge also sentenced him to 10 years indeterminate for Assault-Aggravated with a Deadly Weapon Without the intent to kill. The two sentences will run concurrently.
