BURLEY, Id. (KMVT / KSVT) The Burley City Council has a new $28 million budget for the next fiscal year. The maintenance budget will take effect October 1st.

The budget for law enforcement was increased by 2%, while there was a decrease in money for wastewater projects. This because there is no capital project at this time. For Burley residents, the water base rate increased by $5 and the flow rate increased as well – depending on how much the consumer uses. The only changes in property taxes were approved by the voters for the library levy and street levy.

"We have $200,000 for the street levy that continues into next year and an increase in the library programs of about $35,000 and those are the biggest differences between the current year budget and the next year budget,” said Mark Mitton, City Administrator.

The City Council is trying to catch up on employee salaries, something they haven't been able to do for several years due to the recession. This new budget also plans to have a little more money left over, but that all depends on what happens during the year.
