An involuntary manslaughter charge has been brought against a Burley man after a second-degree murder charge was dropped earlier.  24 year old Michael Thompson was allegedly holding the gun that killed 21 year old Michael Blair in Thompson’s truck last month.  The 2nd degree murder charges were dropped after prosecutors felt there was not enough evidence to support the charge.

Investigators say the shooting happened when Thompson allegedly produced a handgun while the two men and two female companions were headed home in Thompson’s pickup after a night of drinking.  Police say Thompson pulled the handgun and aimed it into the back seat telling Blair and another female to stop bickering.  Apparently, Blair then slid to the center of the seat, grabbed Thompson’s hand holding the gun and stuck the barrel in his mouth when the gun discharged, killing Blair.  Thompson is scheduled for arraignment on February 13th.
