Katifcam, Thinkstock

CANYON COUNTY (KTVB) – A Caldwell man was hurt when he drove off the road and into a canal Thursday morning.

Matthew Johnson, 19, was headed west on Highway 55 near the intersection of Karcher and Midway roads at about 6 a.m. when the wreck happened.

Idaho State Police say Johnson’s 1996 Mazda 626 drifted off the right shoulder and tumbled into a canal that ran alongside the road.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt, and the car’s airbags deployed during the wreck. Johnson was taken to ambulance to Saint Alphonsus in Nampa.

The crash remains under investigation.
