What if a ‘Carrie‘-like scenario could actually happen? What if a person could wield telekinesis in a fit of anger? The latest viral video in promotion of the upcoming ‘Carrie’ remake reveals that people apparently still ask themselves these questions.
In the tradition of ‘The Ring’- and ‘Insidious’-themed pranks, Thinkmodo (the team behind promotional stunts for movies like ‘Limitless’ and ‘Chronicle’) took ‘Carrie’ to the realm of pranking innocent bystanders. Assisted by some pretty stellar effects (sarcasm), the group freaked out some folks in a New York City coffee shop by replicating a ‘Carrie’ freakout when coffee spills all over the actress’ laptop.
Thinkmodo co-founder Michael Krivicka told Yahoo Movies that the creation process took an entire day of installing fake walls, motorized tables and spring-propelled books, and rehearsing with all of these props. Still, it’s surprising that, even with the added actors, that some onlookers seemed to actually buy what they were seeing. If anything, hopefully this will make tourists fear New Yorkers even more.
Kimberly Peirce (‘Boys Don’t Cry’) directs the upcoming remake based on the classic Stephen King novel, starring Chloe Grace Moretz in the title role and Julianne Moore as her insanely (emphasis on “insane”) religious mother. When a bullied young girl is pushed too far by a prank at her high school prom, she unleashes her pent-up telekinetic power on her classmates.
‘Carrie’ is set to hit theaters this October 18.
