CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A 12-year-old cat named Pete who lived at a southwest Idaho animal shelter for a year and a half has been adopted.

Workers at the Canyon County Animal Shelter in Caldwell say they expected the short-haired male cat with an illness similar to Parkinson's disease to live out his life at the shelter. He was dropped off by a family who moved.

But shelter Operations Director Cherisse Faulkner tells the Idaho Statesman that the 9-pound Pete was adopted Friday by another family. Faulkner says Pete holds the record for the longest time spent at the shelter. The shelter has operated as a no-kill facility since October 2011.
