Cenarrusa to Be Laid to Rest in Bellevue
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Pete Cenarrusa, the longest serving elected official in state history, will lie in state at the Capitol before his funeral and burial in Bellevue. The 95-year-old former Secretary of State died Sunday.
The celebration of his life begins Wednesday when mourners can pay their respects at a Boise funeral home. His body will lie in state at the Capitol Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. A vigil is also planned for Thursday night at St. Johns Catholic Church in downtown Boise.
On Friday, a funeral mass will be held at the same church, then Cenarrusa will be buried Saturday at Bellevue Cemetery. Cenarrusa was elected to the Idaho House in 1950 and served nine terms, including three terms as Speaker. He then served nearly 36 years as Secretary of State.
