Coeur d’Alene Schools Work to Improve Attendance

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Coeur d'Alene school officials are working to increase students' average daily attendance this year, a figure that is tied with district funding.

The Spokesman Review reports Coeur d'Alene School District Board chairwoman Christa Hazel told teachers and staff last week that the Make Every Day Count campaign is intended to raise average daily attendance to 95 percent from last year's 93.5 percent. She said this data is used to determine state funding and is a main component of the district's financial health.

Schools like Borah Elementary are using incentive programs to improve attendance. Lakes Middle School assistant principal Michelle Williams says there is a huge impact on students who miss more than 10 percent of the school year.
