Colorado Woman Facing Charges After Bliss Shooting

BLISS, Idaho (AP) — A Colorado woman who is hospitalized in critical condition faces charges that she shot a man before a Magic Valley Idaho sheriff's deputy shot her.

Gooding County Sheriff Shaun Gough said Monday that 39-year-old Hollee R. Johnston of Colorado Springs faces an aggravated assault charge.

The confrontation began when police tried to stop a car in Mountain Home at 2:30 a.m. Sunday. The driver fled. Gough says two Elmore County deputies chased the car east on Interstate 84 to Bliss, where Gooding County deputies got involved.

Deputies say the passenger, 40-year-old Ronald Walter Rice, got out of the car with his hands in the air and then Johnston shot him in the abdomen.

Gough says Johnston turned her gun toward the deputies, one of whom shot her.

Both are hospitalized in critical condition in Boise.
