Crews Called to Hidden Lakes Area After Person Falls Off the Canyon

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The Twin Falls County, Idaho, sheriff says a man with whom he was talking tumbled 50 to 100 feet down into the Snake River Canyon and had to be rescued with ropes and a stretcher.

The Twin Falls Times-News reports that 51-year-old Joseph Agnew of Garden City, Idaho, was hauled back over the canyon rim on Thursday afternoon. A medic said the man may have suffered back and jaw injuries. He was flown to a Pocatello hospital.

Sheriff's Capt. Tim Miller says a resident had called Sheriff Tom Carter to report a suspicious person. Carter and a deputy found Agnew on the property and spoke to him.

The sheriff says the man initially climbed down the canyon wall about 25 feet to a ledge.

Agnew reportedly was trying to get back up from the ledge when he fell.
