ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Federal mine safety regulators are investigating the death of a worker at an underground gold mine in Elko County. Officials for Klondex Mines Ltd. say the miner was discovered unconscious and unresponsive about 11:30 a.m. Monday at its Midas Mine about 90 miles northwest of Elko. The victim's name has not been released. The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/pudwktd) that he was transported to the Humboldt General Hospital where he later was pronounced dead. Klondex CEO Brent Kristof says the company's thoughts and prayers are with his family. He says the cause of the accident has not been determined. Officials for the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration remain on the scene. Klondex bought the mine from Newmont Mining Corp. in February.
