TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – By the end of today the Rogerson building will be but a memory.

Crews were working to raze the building on Tuesday, making way for the future Downtown Commons area – a venue for live concerts and other community events.

“It is always sad to see a part of our history being removed, but the Rogerson building had deteriorated beyond repair and was [no] longer safe or salvageable,” Dan Brizee, chairman of the Board of Directors for the Twin Falls Urban Renewal Agency, said recently in a  prepared statement.

“Our hopes are that the Downtown Commons will continue the Rogerson’s heritage by providing public art and venues where we can gather as a community.”

The above video, taken by drone and provided by the city of Twin Falls, shows part of the demolition. The building was the former Rogerson Hotel that was built in 1908, but in recent years had stood vacant.

Some downtown business owners are excited about what the city has planned for downtown.

“If anything is going to help downtown be rejuvenated, I’m all for it,” business owner Keith Brown previously told News Radio 1310. He and his family own Claude Brown’s, across from the future City Hall and Commons area.

The city needed to do something different downtown because whatever has been done so far “hasn’t worked,” he said. “It’s not going anywhere.”
