BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The owners of a small, dachshund-mix dog missing since Sept. 12 in the woods of Idaho say they've found their pet — 5 pounds lighter but otherwise OK. KTVB-TV in Boise reports that 4-year-old Hailey was lost after she escaped from the family's truck during a stop near Smiths Ferry, about 50 miles north of Boise.

Alyssa Talbert says her family searched for the pet, but eventually had to return home without her. Despite word that the area had lots of coyotes, Talbert and her mother and stepfather Stephanie and Shaun Bevan kept looking, returning to the spot where Hailey disappeared to set out food and call her name.

Area residents joined the search as well. Good news came last week, when two different callers reported seeing Hailey near the Sage Hen Creek Campground. By the time the Bevans got there, it was dark and pouring rain. Still, they found their missing dog hiding behind a tree. At first she ran, but Stephanie Bevan says, "Once she realized who we were, she was happy to see us."
