TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A 23-year-old southern Idaho woman police say hit her 6-year-old daughter outside a Twin Falls bar is facing a misdemeanor charge of injury to a child.

The Times-News reports that the woman appeared in court Monday and also faces a charge of failing to present identification while under the influence of alcohol.

She's been released on her own recognizance.

Twin Falls police say they responded Saturday to a report of an intoxicated woman yelling at a little girl and hitting her.

The girl told authorities they slept in an alley, that her mother accidently burned her with a cigarette, and that she hadn't eaten all day.

The girl was taken into protective custody and a process started to determine if she should be returned to her mother.
