E. Idaho Hit Hard by Wind

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Cities and towns across much of eastern Idaho are in cleanup mode after a day of gusty winds felled trees, knocked out power and closed roadways.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Gary Wicklund says the region was hit with sustained winds of 55 mph, with gusts reaching as high as 67 mph in Ashton and the Craters of the Moon National Monument. In Idaho Falls, city officials closed three golf courses and the zoo because of downed trees and blowing debris.

Winds were blamed for power outages in Idaho Falls and Ammon, and authorities closed sections of Interstate 15 and three state highways due to low visibility. Wind also complicated firefighting efforts at a blaze that ignited in wood piles at a Rexburg business and spread to a nearby gas station.
