IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say an avalanche killed a 39-year-old man who was snowmobiling in eastern Idaho. Bonneville County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Edwards says Rex Andersen of Arco died Thursday in Neely's Cove near Palisades Peak.

That's in a remote area near upper Palisades Lake. Edwards says Andersen had been buried for almost 10 minutes when he was found by friends with avalanche beacons and uncovered with shovels. CPR was performed, but Andersen couldn't be revived. Members of the group told authorities they had found a steep slope and three people had climbed it.

They said Andersen was the fourth and the slope broke loose as he neared the crest. They said he tried to outrun the avalanche but was overcome and buried. He was found lying on his side next to his sled.
