East Idaho Boy Scouts Get $3.5 Million Donation

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The Grand Teton Council of the Boy Scouts of America has received a $3.5 million donation to go toward a new facility and better equipment.

The Post Register reports that Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot says his company decided to give the donation based on the ethical principles that the Boy Scouts represent. Scout Executive Clarke Farrer says the gift allows for an exciting opportunity for the Council. A final decision on whether they will purchase an existing building or construct a new one hasn't been made, but Farrer says they have a place in mind.

The Council's current headquarters building was dedicated in 1960, with far fewer local Boy Scouts than there are today. The Scouts also hope to open a larger store for uniforms, badges and outdoor equipment.
