As expected the biggest piece of a plan to reform Idaho's public schools has been sent back to the Senate Education Committee, where it narrowly passed on a 5-4 vote last week. The legislation was pulled from the Idaho Senate calendar Wednesday. Senate Education Committee Chairman John Goedde says lawmakers need to make more changes to the reform bill, which was already reworked in his committee. The legislation introduced by public schools chief Tom Luna would boost technology in the classroom and online courses while increasing class sizes and cutting about 770 teaching jobs. It's among three school reform bills that Goedde's committee sent to the Senate floor amid strong opposition from the state teachers union.
