Family Will Continue Search for Missing Plane in Idaho Mountains

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The official state and local search for a missing plane and five passengers has been called off for now — but relatives of those on board say they aren't giving up.

Last week, Idaho officials suspended the ground and air search for a small plane that was flying from eastern Oregon to Montana when it disappeared in the central Idaho backcountry Dec. 1.

Family of the missing passengers announced Monday a search funded and coordinated privately will continue. Aboard the six-seat plane were its 51-year-old pilot, Dale Smith, a software executive from San Jose, Calif.; his son, Daniel Smith and his wife, Sheree Smith; and daughter Amber Smith with her fiance, Jonathon Norton. For two weeks, crews focused on an area near Yellow Pine, about 150 miles north of Boise.
