BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Legislation seeking to rewrite Idaho's concealed carry laws has attracted lengthy testimony from gun rights advocates and those who want to be able to carry a weapon without a permit.

The House State Affairs Committee is delaying a final vote on the bill after hearing more than two hours of testimony Monday. Chairman Representative Tom Loertscher of Iona says the committee held the bill because of the absence of two lawmakers, as well as potential concerns with the legislation. He told the Associated Press he does not have a date set for a final vote.

The bill also garnered opposition from those concerned about increased gun crime. Under the bill, elected officials and government employees would no longer be exempt from carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Several testifiers pushed "constitutional carry" legislation, which has been declared dead by Republican leadership.
