SHOSHONE, Idaho (KLIX) A fire that started northwest of Shoshone reached a lumber business late last night and forced the closure of Highway 75 for a time. As of this morning, Highway 75 is open north of Shoshone. In a statement on social media, Sheriff Rene Rodriguez says the Lagoon Fire hit the Sticks and Stones Lumber Yard north of the town and is burning on their property. The city of Shoshone said on it's Facebook page that no homes were lost thanks to the efforts of firefighters.

The sheriff says it will burn for some time as several wood piles are on fire. The blaze reportedly started in the area known as the "Drops," which is a popular swimming area. The Bureau of Land Management says the fire had been reported after midnight. This morning the fire is estimated to have burned roughly 1,000 acres.

BLM determined the cause of this fire is lightning. Evacuation orders have been lifted for people living north of Shoshone after being issued Tuesday evening. BLM officials say one outbuilding in the lumber yard was destroyed. They are assessing the damage of other buildings in the area. At this time the Notch Butte Rangeland Fire Protection Association, ten engines, one Sawtooth National Forest initial attack crew, one hotshot crew, four handcrews, four dozers, six overhead, one air attack, one camp crew, several air resources are working the fire, according to BLM.

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office issued a notice at about 7:40 p.m. warning drivers of possible delays because the fire had forced the closure of the highway heading north of Shoshone. Several streets leading to the "Drops" area were shut down to the public to allow access for emergency vehicles.
