SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A woman is dead and a man is badly burned because of a fire pit they were sitting around in northern Idaho.

KREM-TV reports that deputies were called Sunday to a home near Cataldo after 71-year-old William Mack called to say he needed help and he believed his wife was dead.

Kootenai County Sheriff's officials say when medical and fire personnel arrived on scene they transported Mack to the hospital to be treated for severe burns. His wife, 71-year-old Sandra Mack was found dead at the scene. She also suffered severe burns.

Deputies say the couple was outside near a fire pit when for an unknown reason both suffered severe burns.
