Fires Blaze Around Magic Valley
(KLIX)-Fire crews are battling a number of fires across the Magic Valley here is a list provided by the Bureau of Land Management.
Flat Top 2
Location – 8 miles NE of Kamima on BLM land
Start Time – August 5th at 10:23 p.m.
Size – 7000 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 9 Engines, 2 Water Tenders, 3 Dozers, West End Rural Fire Department, 2 Single Engine Air Tankers, & 1 Helicopter
Contain – August 8th at 8:00 p.m.
Control – August 10th at 8:00 p.m.
Update – Late in the afternoon winds picked up and the Flat Top 2 fire grew, eventually burning together with the Shale Butte fire. The fires have now become one and will be referred to as the Flat Top 2 fire. The fire is burning on BLM land and is still active. A group has been sent out to establish a base camp.
Hotwell
Location – 6 miles SE of Declo on BLM land
Start Time – August 5th at Midnight
Size – 60 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 2 Engines
Contain – August 7th at 8:00 p.m.
Control – August 8th at 8:00 p.m.
South Hotwell
Location – 3 miles SW of the Hotwell fire on BLM land
Start Time – In the evening August 5th
Size – 5 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 1 Engine
Contain – August 6th at 8:00 p.m.
Control – Not set at this time
Fires off District
Cave Canyon
Location – In the Minidoka Ranger District of the Sawtooth National Forest
Start Time – August 5th at 8:47 p.m.
Size – 4500 acres in Timber
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 4 Engines, 1 Dozer, 4 Hand Crews, 1 Water Tender, Sawtooth Hot Shots, Oakley Rurals, 1 Air Attack, 1 Helicopter
No contain or control has been established.
Update – This fire began late last night and burned together with the Little Cedar Canyon Fire, which was in the same area. Both of these fires are on the Sawtooth National Forest, but have burned a few acres of BLM land as well. There are cattle as well as archeological sites in the area.
Deer Hollow
Location – In the Sawtooth National Forest, Minidoka Ranger District - Black Pine Division
Start Time – August 6th at 12:30 p.m.
Size – 1000 acres
Cause – Lightning
Resources – 4 Engines, Raft River Rural Fire Department, Smoke Jumpers, 1 Single Engine Air Tanker, & 1 Lead Plane

Update – BLM engines have responded to this fire located on the Sawtooth National Forest Service.
