(AP) Idaho Power's attempt to determine the success of its fish stocking program in the Snake River could lead to cash for some lucky anglers. The company releases about 42,000 rainbow trout of at least 10 inches each year as part of its license agreement to operate 17 hydroelectric power plants on the river and its tributaries.

The company puts jaw tags on some fish as a way to measure the success of its fish stocking program based on how many of the tags are turned in by anglers. Some tags are instant winners, while others are entered into a $1,000 drawing. Idaho Power biologist Ben Reingold tells The Times-News that return rate varies from project to project and from spring to fall.
