Flight From Idaho Crashes in California

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Executive says it's believed construction company president and son died in Calif. jet crash.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Officials say a small jet that took off from Idaho has crashed into a storage hangar and started a large fire after landing at a Southern California airport.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the twin-engine Cessna Citation that took off from Hailey, Idaho, went off the right side of the runway at Santa Monica Municipal Airport at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday night and struck the hangar.

Santa Monica Fire Department spokeswoman Bridgett Lewis says the fire has destroyed the hangar and caused minor damage to two other buildings. It was not immediately clear how many people were on the plane or inside the hangar, or whether anyone was injured. A plume of smoke rising above the airport can be seen in the surrounding neighborhood.
