The annual mid-January thaw in the Magic Valley is causing some flooding problems.  Warm overnight temperatures and melting snow overloaded a canal east of Jerome Sunday night.  Water runoff from fields washed water and silt into yards, basements and garages near Tiger Drive on the east side of Jerome.  Residents there say that’s happened before but that was mostly water.  This time silt from the fields washed onto yards in the area.  City and county crews were able to get the water levels to drop by about noon yesterday but they expect cleanup to take another few days.  Residents in the area will be shoveling the thick wet silt from their yards into the street gutters where city crews will then dispose of it.  Some water and silt was also reported in some basements in the affected area.
