COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a former city clerk for Athol, Idaho, has been sentenced to four years in prison for embezzlement.

The U.S. attorney's office said 39-year-old Sally Hansen was sentenced Tuesday. Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Hansen to pay more than $434,000 in restitution to the small north Idaho city. Hansen pleaded guilty to the charge in January. Court documents say that during her employment, Hansen fraudulently took nearly $418,000 from Athol.

She did this by writing fraudulent checks to herself and her husband and wire transferring money among different city accounts. Hansen was Athol's city clerk from May 2009 until she was fired in June 2014.
