Fans eagerly anticipating the third season of HBO's 'Game of Thrones' well know that the series ranks among some of the highest-budgeted TV in history, taking viewers to expansive new locations, often supplementing real location work with impressive CGI. The upcoming third season, set to debut on March 31 shot in its four usual countries to portray different landscapes, but for its biggest season yet added yet another famous location: Los Angeles! Following the epic new gallery of pictures from HBO's 'Game of Thrones' season 3, series show-runner David Benioff offered a few new production tidbits regarding the acclaimed fantasy drama. For one, production supplemented its established filming scope from the countries of Morocco (Daenerys / Qarth), Iceland (Jon Snow / The North), Croatia (Kings' Landing) and the production base in Northern Ireland with yet a fifth country.

“For the first time, we’re flying in actors to L.A.,” David Benioff told Entertainment Weekly. “So it ends up being five countries and three units this year. It’s just exploded.” Benioff was mum as to what action would take place in the Los Angeles sequences, however. Elsewhere, original series creator George R.R. Martin revealed via his blog that season 3 would incorporate the use of a live bear for certain scenes.
