COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (KTVB) -- A gun rights advocacy group says it will sue a northern Idaho city for refusing to change its local laws prohibiting firearms at parades and public assemblies.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Idaho Second Amendment Alliance is working to change all local ordinances that do not comply with Idaho's 2008 pre-emption law, which gives the state control of gun regulation.

The group most recently persuaded a south-central Idaho county to repeal a firearm ordinance banning guns in county parks.

However, Coeur d'Alene city council members denied the group's request to amend the local gun ban law earlier this week.

City Councilman Ron Edinger says the ordinance has been beneficial to the city.

The alliance's president says his group is working with attorneys to file a lawsuit.
