HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ Trailer: Damon Lindelof’s Rapture Drama Previews the Sound of Silence

Despite having its premiere delayed two weeks for production, HBO’s ‘The Leftovers‘ remains one of our most anticipated summer series. The haunting first trailer gave us a look at Damon Lindelof‘s vision of a world left with the aftermath of a 2% population disappearance, while the latest full trailer for HBO’s new drama gives a glimpse of the darkness that follows.

Set to Nouela’s cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” the new trailer for ‘The Leftovers’ shows us some of the world’s subtle changes immediately, as an addendum to the Pledge of Allegiance offers students a chance to pray for the departed souls, as well as their own forgiveness. Christopher Eccleston‘s preacher character questions the departure’s Rapture-like nature, given that many of the departed were no better morally than those left behind, while even world councils offer no explanation to the disappearances.

For those unfamiliar, HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ follows those left behind on Earth after a rapture of sorts, those not chosen to be taken up to Heaven, or at least so a portion of the population believes of the disappearance. Adapted from Tom Perrotta’s 2009 novel of the same name, the show’s pilot was directed by Peter Berg (‘Lone Survivor‘).

The Leftovers’ also stars Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, Carrie Coon, Ann Dowd, Amanda Warren, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, Annie Q, Paterson Joseph, Brad Leland, ‘Private Practice‘ vet Amy Brenneman, and ‘Fringe‘ star Emily Meade.

HBO’s ‘The Leftovers’ will premiere on June 29 (having been pushed back two weeks from its original premiere for an unexpected production hiatus), so check out the latest trailer above, as well as an invitation to the set below, and tell us if you’re interested to check out HBO’s new drama from Damon Lindelof!
