BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Officials with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare say the state's flu season is running later than normal and reports of flu-related deaths have gone up over the past several weeks.

So far there have been 16 flu-related deaths in Idaho. State epidemiologist Dr. Christine Hahn said in a prepared statement that because the virus is still circulating, residents should consider getting the flu vaccine if they haven't yet been vaccinated. Normally flu reports peak in mid-winter, but department spokesman Tom Shanahan told the Idaho Statesman that reports continue to come in.

He said this is the latest flu season he's seen in 15 years working with the department. There were 32 flu-related deaths reported in the 2014-2015 flu season in Idaho.
