BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Ada County Highway District says it will be appealing a district judge's ruling that the district owes more than $1 million to the owner of a Boise retirement community in connection to a dispute over the construction of a sidewalk.

The Idaho Statesman reports that the dispute started in 2012 with an eminent domain case. The district was improving a road and built a sidewalk in the area of Brooke View, a retirement community. Brooke View's owner later said the construction damaged a decorative wall at the entrance of the neighborhood.

A jury previously awarded Brooke View $146,000 in compensation for the damage, but the judge increased the amount because more money had been spent. The District had previously offered Brooke View $275,000 in a settlement.
