One of the benefits of youth sports is they teach kids sportsmanship. But who’s teaching the adults?

This shocking video (with some very NSFW language from parents in atteandance) shows a referee at a youth hockey game last weekend in Winnipeg, Canada breaking the wrist of a 12-year-old player while trying to break up a fight. The footage is blurry, but you can see the referee body slam the player at the 11-second mark.

While it’s unclear whether the referee’s actions were intentional or if he may have slipped on the ice, the injured player, Kainen Bell, explained what happened:

When I hit the ground it went dark for two seconds, then I rolled to the side and a kid on my team pulled me out of the game. I don’t think it’s right.”

Kainen’s coach said the referee was totally in the wrong. “That ref should have never put two hands on one player,” he said. “He should have put one hand on one player, one hand on the other player and separated them properly.”

Police continue to investigate the matter.
