Unlike other meats, undercooked ground beef is unlikely to make you sick, meaning we have a wide range of cooking styles to choose from when we order a hamburger.

Food guide Zagat surveyed 1,000 adults on their burger-eating habits and found that 38 percent order their beef sandwich medium rare. Thirty-six percent request medium, 6 percent like their hamburger well done, and 4 percent risk rare.

The survey also found that 2 percent eat hamburgers for breakfast, although there was no breakdown on what percentage of these morning carnivores start their day with blood in their mouths.
