My family had an awkward situation today that I'm hoping can help others in the Magic Valley. You may laugh at this, but to me and my family it was a potentially serious situation. A door-to-door salesman stopped by our home and what he said was alarming.

If someone comes to your door claiming to be a door-to-door salesperson, ask to see their city permit. If they don't have a permit, shut the door and call the police.

Here's the deal: the guy claimed to be a home security salesperson. I say "claimed" because I'm very suspicious of this because of what he offered. He told my wife that he would install a home security system for free if we allowed him to put a sign in our yard.

I'm from the school of "If it sounds too good to be true, it is". My wife smartly declined the offer and shut the door, then quickly messaged me to let me know what happened. I called the Twin Falls police non-emergency number and they gave me some very helpful advice.

If someone comes to your door claiming to be a door-to-door salesperson, ask to see their city permit. If they don't have a permit, shut the door and call the police. Door-to-door solicitors are required to have a permit before they can approach your home or business.

This may sound a bit harsh, but you never know if someone is scoping out your home and/or family. Better to be diligent now and avoid a home invasion or robbery later.
