SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (AP) — The Caribou County sheriff’s office says human remains found near a reservoir in eastern Idaho have been returned to the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

Sgt. Adam Mabey told the Idaho State Journal that investigators with the sheriff’s office determined the remains were of a relic nature, so they called in officials from the Fort Hall reservation. Mabey says there’s no indication that the remains are connected to any unsolved crimes. The skeletal remains were found Sunday afternoon by some people who were scouting for moose at the reservoir.

They called law enforcement officials to report the findings. The tribes’ spokeswoman, Randy’L Teton, says tribal remains are a culturally sensitive issue, and she didn’t expect to release any information until the Tribes’ Cultural Resources Department had a chance to assess the matter
